Over the weekend, fan-favorite BBC-A clone drama 'Orphan Black' returned for its much-anticipated second season, allowing Golden Globe nominee Tatiana Maslany to portray her various clone characters once more. The second season premiere "Nature Under Constraint and Vexed" kicked up a few new mysteries to be sure, but what about that shocking major twist in the final moments? How did that character return?

You're warned of spoilers for the 'Orphan Black' season 2 premiere from here on out, but it seems producers just couldn't let go of a fan-favorite character who'd previously been killed in the first season finale, that of Sarah Manning's clone counterpart and womb roommate Helena. Sarah had fairly conclusively shot the crazed Ukrainian religious assassin, making it all the more surprising to see her lurch into an ER in the closing moments of the premiere, a surprise twist co-creator John Fawcett admitted to to Entertainment Weekly about which, "We lied. It was bald face lying. We just did it as best we could with every single interviewer that would talk to us."

Moreover, it seems Helena's survival had long been planned for a surprising season 2 arc:

Yeah, we always knew that. It was never, ever a discussion of whether we kill her or not, she was very much going to be alive and we kind of had an evil plan for why she was alive, which will be revealed soon. I’m hoping the audience is going to be really excited that she’s back and then the question is, how did she survive?

It wouldn't be the first time we've seen the clones display some unusual healing abilities, though health seems to vary among the differing clones, now that several have come down with the debilitating virus apparently inherent to their DNA. Elsewhere, we know of ‘Orphan Black’ season 2 that ‘Suits‘ star and fan Patrick J. Adams scored a role in the newest run of episodes, along with ‘The Killing‘ star Michelle Forbes, while co-creator Graeme Manson previously said of the new episodes that we’d learn much more about the “Neolution” conspiracy that seems tied to the clones’ origins.

Well, what do you think? Did 'Orphan Black' season 2 take you by surprise with Helena's return? What might it have to do with the mysterious group that seems to have abducted Kira? Check out the latest 'Orphan Black' season 2 trailer again below, and give us your predictions in the comments!
