It must be difficult to be mad at your absentee mom when she rocks this hard — the new trailer for Ricki and the Flash has arrived, in which acting icon Meryl Streep plays a rock icon fumbling her way through making amends with the family she once left behind. Adding a little realism is Mamie Gummer, Streep's real-life daughter who plays her fictional daughter in the film, which totally won't make you cry at all.

Ricki and the Flash was written by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody and directed by Academy Award-winner Jonathan Demme, and it stars Academy Award goddess Meryl Streep — that's an impressive combo. Even more impressive? Streep learned to shred on the guitar for the film, and worked so hard at it that she made her fingers bleed. She literally bled for her art. Is there nothing she cannot do?

The film centers on Streep's Ricki, a woman who gave up her family to pursue rock stardom. Years later, she returns home to repair her relationship with her ex-husband (Kevin Kline), her emotionally distraught daughter (Gummer) and her recently engaged son who wants nothing to do with her.

Ricki and the Flash also stars real-life musician Rick Springfield as Ricki's bandmate who's also in love with her — watching Meryl Streep make out with Rick Springfield in this trailer is everything you never knew you wanted.

Ricki and the Flash arrives in theaters on August 7.
