'Evil Dead 4': Sam Raimi Sparks Rumors and Script PlansDamon Houx |
Sam Raimi's 'Evil Dead' trilogy is one of the touchstones of cult cinema. From the first no-budget horror film, to the frenetic, slapsticky horror-comedy of the second, to the Dungeons and Dragons and Mark Twain-inspired third film, they are marvelously entertaining movies that inspire very passionate fans. Which is why people keep asking Raimi about a fourth film. Well, he's answered, and suggests he's going to write a new sequel this summer.
This word comes from Bleeding Cool, who heard that Raimi answered the question while junketing 'Oz: The Great and Powerful' in London. His quote: "I would love to make Evil Dead 4. My brother and I plan to work on the script this summer."
Like Peter Jackson, Raimi went from outsider low budget filmmaker to helming one of the most successful trilogies of all time with his 'Spider-Man' films, so he's got quite a bit of clout. Though perhaps a fourth 'Evil Dead' film will rest on how 'Oz' fares at the box office. Or perhaps on the success of the remake 'Evil Dead,' which hits theaters this April.
The other big question (at least for fans) is: will the action pick up after the events in the theatrical cut of 'Army of Darkness' or the Director's cut, which left Bruce Campbell's Ash stranded in a post-apocalyptic wasteland? And these are the sorts of questions we'll be asking Raimi until this film becomes a reality.
