The iconic and still-relatable Seinfeld famously identified itself as a “show about nothing,” but did you know that Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld envisioned the actual series with a specific focus? Or that Elaine didn’t even appear in the pilot? Giddy up, it’s time for the 19th episode of ‘You Think You Know TV?,’ which grabs a cup of Monk’s coffee with Seinfeld!

Despite the meta-plotline of Jerry and George pitching a sitcom to NBC, the real Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David had originally sold their pilot as a look into the source of a comedian’s material. This concept was eventually abandoned, though David also famously maintained a “no hugging, no learning” policy to the series, wanting to eschew any sentimentality or growth to the characters.
