Sherlock likely knows its fourth season premiere will soothe your New Years’ hangover, but will you recover enough by the finale to venture out? Put on a pot of coffee and down some aspirin, as Season 4 finale “The Final Problem” will have a theatrical release for Sherlock and co.

Per Entertainment Weekly, the third and final installment of Season 4 will hit U.S. theaters on January 16 and 18, as part of a joint venture between BBC Worldwide North America and Fathom Events. The same groups have previously been responsible for theatrical Doctor Who outings, as well as Sherlock’s own “Abominable Bride” special.

As you might expect, the theatrical venture will also include 15 minutes of Sherlock extras, while The BBC says:

We can’t think of a better way to start the new year off then experiencing the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson on the big screen. The bonus content will be an excellent treat for the show’s loyal fans.

The new season will premiere on January 1 with “The Six Thatchers” (a reference to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle tale “The Six Napoleons”), with the latter two episodes arriving in weekly installments. Likely our last Sherlock for the foreseeable future, with some leading titles, and the first of three new feature-length episodes to be helmed by Doctor Who and The Flash director Rachel Talalay, so reads the first synopsis:

Sherlock will return to screens with three brand-new episodes promising laughter, tears, shocks, surprises and extraordinary cases…

Series four begins with the nation’s favourite detective, the mercurial Sherlock Holmes, back once more on British soil, as Doctor Watson and his wife, Mary, prepare for their biggest ever challenge - becoming parents for the first time.

In the meantime, stay tuned for the latest Sherlock Season 4 updates as they arrive.
