If there's one lesson that every inhabitant of any horror film needs to learn, it's that purposely moving into a haunted house is a bad idea. Moving into any haunted house in general is a bad idea (that's just basic common sense), but settling your family down into a hotbed of evil and bad deeds because that's what you've actually intended to do, well, that's something else entirely. Scott Derrickson's 2012 scarefest 'Sinister' effectively mined the haunted house trope, bolstered by both its characters' totally intended move into a twisted house (why, you guys, why?) and a big mythology that pushed its story every outward, and now we're getting much more of the burgeoning franchise.

The sequel was announced earlier this year, though information about its plot has been (perhaps purposely) scarce. Derrickson and co-writer C. Robert Cargill's first film seemed to be primed for a sequel, however, thanks to the introduction of a seemingly sprawling mythology, a nifty way to link up characters, and one heck of an open ending. The new feature will be directed by Ciaran Foy (with Derrickson and Cargill scripting) and will hit theaters in the summer of 2015, just in time to cool you down with bone-chilling screams.

'Sinister 2' will arrive on August 21, 2015, putting it up against Warner Bros.' 'Me Before You,' a dark romance based on the bestselling Jojo Moyes novel of the same name (and, no, we doubt that the films will directly compete for audience members -- this is some solid dating by Focus Features and Blumhouse).
