‘Mad Men’ Star Jon Hamm to Reprise Don Draper on ‘SpongeBob’ … Sort Of
If you’re anything like us, you’ve watched each and every episode of AMC’s Mad Men with a nagging suspicion: Wouldn’t Jon Hamm’s Don Draper be better served as an animated underwater ad man on SpongeBob Squarepants? Wonder no longer, friends. Nickelodeon has answered the call.
That said, don’t start fidgeting with Don Draper continuity just yet, as Mad Men (and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt!) star Hamm will guest on the long-running animated series in 2016 as “Don Grouper,” a distinguished and unique character who … well, okay, here’s how Nickelodeon describes it:
Don Grouper – a charismatic head ad executive of the ad agency Grouper, Goby & Koi. His sharp mind and devastating charm make him an irresistible force. When Don’s in the room everyone laps up his words like overpriced organic honey. In the episode, Mr. Krabs goes to Don for help as Mr. Krabs tries to launch his line of frozen Krabby Patties.
Should you need convincing, Nickelodeon also provided a “rough” sketch of the role, itself indeterminately scheduled for next year:
And there you have it! Don Draper, Dick Whitman, Jon Hamm, Emmy-winner, SpongeBob Squarepants voice artist. We’d all wondered where precisely Hamm might next surface onscreen, and the answer is upon us. Fish. Sponges. All is at once understood.
