Believe it: Spring will be one of the best horror films of 2015. Drafthouse Films’ latest combines romance and horror to create a new breed of movie, defying genre conventions and labels to deliver something truly special. The first trailer for this unique upcoming film has arrived, promising to sweep you off your feet and creep you out in equal measure.

Spring stars Lou Taylor-Pucci (the Evil Dead remake) as Evan, an American trying to get over his past via a trip to Europe. After sticking around Italy for a bit, Evan meets and immediately falls for the impossibly beautiful and exceedingly mysterious Louise. As the pair’s romance begins to blossom, Evan discovers that Louise is keeping a dark and terrifying secret — one that will test his devotion and his will.

We had a chance to see Spring at last year’s Fantastic Fest, and totally fell in love with the film, which is both immensely charming and unnerving. Some critics have compared Spring to Richard Linklater’s Before trilogy, given the chemistry between its two leads. That comparison is fairly apt, but Spring wonderfully offers so much more. Here’s the official synopsis:

Evan (Lou Taylor Pucci, ‘Evil Dead,’ ‘Thumbsucker’) is a young American fleeing to Europe to escape his past. While backpacking along the Italian coast, everything changes during a stop at an idyllic Italian village, where he meets and instantly connects with the enchanting and mysterious Louise. A flirtatious romance begins to bloom between the two – however, Evan soon realizes that Louise has been harboring a monstrous, primordial secret that puts both their relationship and their lives in jeopardy.

Spring comes courtesy of directors Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson (check out their previous fantastic effort, Resolution, on Netflix Instant), and hits theaters and VOD on March 20.
