Here’s even more good news for you regarding the previously troubled production of ‘Star Trek 3’: now that ‘Fast and Furious’ director Justin Lin has taken over directing duties following the departure of Roberto Orci, the upcoming ‘Trek’ installment has just beamed itself up a new writer to course-correct the screenplay. Simon Pegg—Scotty himself—will now lend his writing talents to the script alongside Doug Jung.

Deadline reports that Pegg will co-write the third ‘Star Trek’ film with Jung, the creator of TNT series ‘Dark Blue.’ Many fans felt relieved when Orci stepped down from directing the upcoming sequel, given that he hadn’t previously directed a film before, so trusting him with a sequel to a franchise that’s already been a bit wobbly didn’t seem like the best idea. Lin has taken over directing duties, which has definitely made a lot of fans feel a little better about the sequel—now that Pegg is co-writing the script, the prospect of a third ‘Trek’ film seems even more promising.

Pegg previously co-wrote ‘Shaun of the Dead,’ ‘Hot Fuzz,’ and ‘The World’s End’ with director Edgar Wright, as well as the 2007 film ‘Run, Fatboy, Run.’ If you’re puzzling over how Jung got involved with the script, the writer has penned the upcoming film ‘Diamond’ for J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production company.

‘Star Trek 3' is scheduled to hit theaters on July 8, 2016.
