'Star Trek: Into Darkness' doesn't hit theaters until May of next year, but fans are more than looking forward to seeing the much talked about first footage, said to premiere along with screenings of 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' come December 14. Bring on the marketing! Presumably in preparation for the big reveal, Paramount has released the first teaser poster for 'Star Trek: Into Darkness.' Check it out in full after the break.

Director J.J. Abrams' (literally) three-framed footage of 'Star Trek: Into Darkness' he "premiered" on 'Conan' a while ago was torture. We were excited to get the first screenshot of the upcoming film, but were also aching for more. Now we finally have more with the all-new teaser poster for the sequel to the 2009 epic first installment.

What does the first poster tell us? Well, there will be A LOT of devastation! The official plot, released not too long ago, revealed that the Enterprise crew returns home to find their world in crisis... and they weren't kidding.

Here's the full synopsis:

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

'Star Trek: Into Darkness' features a cast that includes Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zoe Saldana and Karl Urban. While we wait to see the first footage, check out the full poster below and give us your theories for the film in the comments!
