Look, we get it. Even with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story set to hit theaters next week, some of you just prefer your Star Wars stories to be part of the main story. And although we might be as caught up as everyone else in talking about the prospect of prequels and standalone movies, that doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten how to give you some good, old-fashioned Star Wars: Episode VIII gossip. Here’s one we know you’ll like: rumors are circulating that the title of the next film popped up in the most unlikely of places.

A recent filing with the European Union Intellectual Property Office has been submitted for the title “Star Wars Forces of Destiny,” leading fans to wonder if the full title of the next film will be Star Wars: Episode VIII  —  Forces of Destiny. Certainly sounds like a Star Wars title, right? As Heroic Hollywood notes, the filing was first discovered by AVS Forum, who pointed to the “lengthy list of goods and services the name is being trademarked for” as proof that this project might be larger in scope than an individual product. Indeed, if you peruse the giant list of items connected to the filing, you’ll find everything from “egg-candlers” to “fairground ride apparatus,” suggesting a merchandising push that might fit well with a motion picture the size of Star Wars Episode VIII. My admiration goes out to the team of lawyers that crossed the t’s and dotted the i’s on that particular lists.

Of course, this is all just speculation, but it is worth taking a moment to admire the various channels these types of rumors come from. When you’re operating on the level of a blockbuster movie, it’s hard to keep secrets; even something as simple as the title of your next film has to be passed through various legal and commercial channels long before it ever hits the open market. Just a few weeks ago, we saw information about the production of Deadpool 2 leak as a result of their scheduled location shoots within British Columbia. Even in the entertainment industry  —  where people assume it’s all red carpets and private screenings  —  breaking news still comes from the most mundane and unlikely of places.

Star Wars: Episode VIII — Title Pending will hit theaters on December 15, 2017.
