For a movie whose ending has been known for decades, there’s an awful lot of mystery around Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Even after the first teaser (embedded below if you want to watch it for the 8,000th time), and with the full knowledge that the film would tell the story of the brave Rebels who stole the Death Star plans that eventually wound up in the hands of Princess Leia and R2-D2 in the first Star Wars, there was very little clear about where Rogue One would go and who it would feature. Today’s big Entertainment Weekly issue represents the first major reveal about the film’s cast, which, we now know officially, includes Darth Vader. Unlike Vader, though, most of the characters in this Star Wars Story are brand-new, and EW got the scoop on their names and backstories. Check them out above.

You’ve got to like the description of Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso, the “streetwise delinquent” with knowledge of the Empire who gets captured by the Rebels and put to work for the good guys. It definitely recalls Snake Plissken from John Carpenter’s sci-fi classic Escape From New York, and obviously many great Star Wars characters from Han Solo to Finn to Darth Vader himself have straddled the line between the Light and Dark Sides. Even though Star Wars tends to play with very clear divisions between the heroes and villains, it’s often at its best when it blurs those lines. And Jones, a very good young actress, should be able to bring all kinds of shades to Jyn.

The big remaining question, though, particularly given EW’s description, is who the hell Forest Whitaker is playing in this movie? Thankfully we won’t have to wait long to find out; his identity is supposed to be revealed later this afternoon. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens on December 16.
