At this point, we’re going to see the entirety of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad through footage filmed by civilians with iPhones before we even get to the first trailer. The latest batch of videos confirm a rumor that’s been circulating for months – yes, Ben Affleck’s Batman will play in a role in the film and from the looks of things, it will probably be far more than a “blink and you’ll miss him” cameo.

We got our first glimpse at the Joker’s purple sports car (with the “HAHAHA” vanity plates) a few weeks ago. We then got our first look at the new tank-like Batmobile pursuing the Jokermobile a few days ago. This latest batch of footage shows off what must be the second portion of this sequence, with the Dark Knight clinging to the roof of the Joker’s vehicle, sparks flying as he tries to cut his way through the roof. That’s not Jared Leto in the driver’s seat (just a professional stunt driver caked in white face paint and bad tattoos), but that is Margot Robbie in the passenger seat, giving us a proper movie star face for the sequence.

Photos have emerged from the same shoot, giving us a new Harley Quinn close-up and a great look at the new Batman costume. Here’s our question: did they luck out and find a stuntman with a similar chin to Affleck or was that little notch applied with make-up?

Also note the orange tracking markers where the visual effects geniuses will add Batman’s cape in post-production.

Although we don’t know any of the details about this scene, we will offer some educated speculation. Since Robbie is in full Harley Quinn mode, this scene obviously takes place after the footage we saw awhile back, which initially introduced us to the Joker’s car, gave us our first look at Leto in motion, and showcased Harleen Quinzel before she fell into a big pit of crazy. However, this scene is probably still part of a flashback. The Joker supposedly spends most of Suicide Squad behind bars, so this scene probably exists to show us how he was captured ... and give us our first glimpse at his ongoing professional rivalry with Batman, of course. It’s possible that the film opens with Harley’s origin and the Joker’s capture, but it’s just as likely that this is information that will appear in bits and pieces throughout the main movie. We wouldn’t be surprised if other incarcerated villains, like Will Smith’s Deadshot or Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang, get “glory days” flashbacks of their own.

The big question now is whether or not Batman/Bruce Wayne will appear beyond this action scene. After all, we did see photos of Affleck on set in a suit and tie, looking very much like a billionaire playboy. We’ll find out for sure when Suicide Squad opens on August 5, 2015.
