Season 8 is proving to be a crucial year for the Winchester brothers, as 'Supernatural' moves ahead full steam with a new order.  Not only has the show changed show-runners from Sera Gamble to the returning Jeremy Carver, but this year the Winchesters get back to the business of angels & demons as they search for the word of God.  Dean was left in dire straits last year, so what 'Battlestar Galactica' vet is going to sink his teeth into helping him escape?

According to TVLine, 'Supernatural' season 8 has summoned 'Battlestar Galactica' veteran Ty Olsson for an important recurring role, that of a vampire named "Benny," whom Dean meets during his stay in purgatory and ultimately helps him escape from said predicament.  Interestingly, Olsson previously guested on 'Supernatural' way back in season 2, as another vampire named "Eli," no less.

Though not quite a household name, Olsson also starred as 9/11 hero Mark Bingham in the A&E telepic 'Flight 93,'and has appeared in everything from 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn,' to 'X2: X-Men United' and 'Once Upon A Time.'  Says Jensen Ackles (Dean) of Olsson's role on 'Supernatural,' set to begin with the October 3 premiere:

He’s not a good guy.  [He] stands to pose a bit of an issue for Dean because maybe there are things that Dean has hidden that he doesn’t want to tell Sam that happened in purgatory.

Oh, those wily Winchester brothers.  Always keeping one thing or another from their sibling.  Dean isn't the only one making new friends in season 8 however, as the show recently cast Liane Balaban (‘Alphas,’ ‘Covert Affairs’) as Sam's new love interest Amelia, developed in the time the brothers spent separated.

What say you?  Do you think Dean has a new vampire best friend in Ty Olsson, or will the two have bad blood?  What else did we learn from 'Supernatural' at Comic-Con 2012?  Tell us what you're most excited to see from season 8 in the comments below!
