‘Supernatural’ Spinoff in the Works for The CW?
We're just settling back in from the madness that was Comic-Con 2013, but it seems not all of the major scoops on our favorite series emerged during the panels themselves. 'Supernatural' took time to preview its upcoming ninth season, but could there really be a spinoff series in the works for the future?
According to TVLine from executive producer Bob Singer, yes! Though curiously not mentioned with the Hall H 'Supernatural' panel, Singer revealed plans during the press room for a potential 'Supernatural' spinoff to be woven in as a backdoor pilot through the ninth season, as 'The Vampire Diaries' most recently employed with 'The Originals.'
Rather than focus on an existing character, the purported 'Supernatural' spinoff will follow an original character introduced in the 20th episode of the coming season, itself considered to be the backdoor pilot. Few other details of the character or setting were available, though we're given to understand the spinoff will have more of an urban feel than 'Supernatural''s cross-country vibe.
Meanwhile, the actual 'Supernatural' panel confirmed that longtime series star Jim Beaver would return as his character Bobby Singer in an unknown capacity for season 9, while Felicia Day's Charlie Bradbury will pop up as well.
Well, what say you? Could the 'Supernatural' franchise find a bit of new life through a spinoff, or should The CW burn the bones before the idea goes any further? Watch the highlight reel from Comic-Con below, and give us your thoughts in the comments!
