Iron Man 3
Part of the fun of watching a Marvel movie is looking out for all those Easter eggs strewn throughout, and you can be sure 'Guardians of the Galaxy' has a handful, as well. But in case you missed any of them, from the first 'Iron Man' movie all the way up to 'Thor: The Dark World,' MTV compiled a handy video running down all of them, explaining their significance.
With the release of ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier,’ we now have our ninth film of the Marvel Studios continuity since the first ‘Iron Man’ debuted in 2008. It’s a weird thing, these movies have happened so relatively fast, re-watching them now, it’s hard not to have that, Oh, that’s right, Jeff Bridges was actually in ‘Iron Man’ moment. The Marvel movies come so quickly, it almost feels like an analogy to the current state of hyper-accelerated culture itself.
Anyway, here’s a ranking of all of the one-movie-only peripheral Marvel characters played by known actors that we haven’t quite forgotten, but at least deserve to be remembered as part of an Internet list. (Marvel One-Shot short films do not count.)
Just last month, Marvel released the first clip from their upcoming one-shot, 'All Hail the King,' and today they've unleashed a new one featuring quasi-villain Mandarin -- or Trevor Slattery, rather, played by Ben Kingsley. Seems we haven't seen the last of Slattery following his involvement in 'Iron Man 3,' and we'll be able to see more of his story when 'Thor: The Dark World' hits DVD and Blu-ray this month. If you're impatient, we've got another sneak peek at Kingsley reprising his role in the new short.
Just when you thought you'd seen the last of Ben Kingsley's Mandarin (or Trevor Slattery, rather), Marvel has pulled him back in for an all new One-Shot for their upcoming release of 'Thor: The Dark World' on Blu-ray. In the new short film, Slattery sits down with an inquisitive reporter for his first interview since landing in prison, and we've got a sneak peek at Kingsley reprising his role in the first clip.
It's time to hail the King!
When Marvel first unveiled the details to the upcoming 'Thor: The Dark World' Blu-ray release, fans were intrigued by one detail included among the extra features -- an all-new Marvel One-Shot. While the project was originally shrouded in mystery, the first photos and details from the short film have been release, and it centers around -- yup, you guessed it -- 'Iron Man 3' star Ben Kingsley!
At some point today, 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' will officially pass 'Iron Man 3' at the box-office to become the biggest movie of 2013 with just over $409 million. This may not sound like a huge deal, but this marks the first time a female-led movie has topped the yearly box-office chart in almost 50 years.
After two unfortunate 'Punisher' movies (we're going to forget the old Dolph Lundgren version), Marvel Studios got the rights back to the franchise and many hoped that would mean big things for Frank Castle. The fanboy flames were stoked even further when there was a glimpse of what appeared to be The Punisher's iconic skull logo in 'Iron Man 3.' Could this be laying the groundwork for The Punisher in future Marvel movies?
There was definitely something apocalyptic about the 2013 summer movie season, and we’re not just talking about the movies themselves.
While major releases, like ‘This Is the End,’ ‘Oblivion,’ ‘Pacific Rim‘ and ‘Elysium,’ dealt with the end of the world, Hollywood appeared to be on the verge of collapse out in the real world. Films that looked like surefire hits flopped; surefire disasters proved to be more disastrous than everyone predicted; the handful of films without numbers in their titles stumbled; and, from the sidelines, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas smirked, shrugged and predicted the end of the moviegoing experience as we know it.
So, what exactly happened here? More importantly, what does this mean for the future of studio filmmaking? It’s easy to imagine Hollywood looking at what happened this summer and learning plenty of lessons; but, maybe, not always the right ones.
'Iron Man 3' comes out on DVD and Blu-ray this September 24 with a butt-load of extra features, including a preview of the upcoming 'Thor 2' on the Blu-ray. You're gonna want to own that 'Iron Man 3' Blu-ray and you can get a taste of the incredible special features with a tease of 'Thor: The Dark World' right now.
