In the first truly busy weekend for new releases in 2014, Ice Cube and Kevin Hart took the competition, bent them over the knee and gave them a good spanking. Okay, you probably didn't want the image of those two spanking animated squirrels, demonic babies or Chris Pine in your head, but how else are we going to talk about the opening weekend for 'Ride Along'?
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
Some franchises leave an indelible mark on you during your formative years, and inspire passionate, lifelong devotion from their fans – but is Jack Ryan really one of them? Given the messy lineage of the character on screen, played now by four separate actors (Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and here, by 'Star Trek Into Darkness' star Chris Pine), not to mention the fact that the films are wildly uneven in terms of quality, it seems like the answer would be no. But, the character’s resilience is apparently as indefatigable as Hollywood’s faith in intellectual property, which is why ‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit’ exists, a dull mishmash of Cold War spy games and ‘Bourne Identity’-style grit which shares much in common with the weakest of its predecessors – especially total forgettability.
We're just a couple of weeks away from the premiere of 'Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit,' and you can check out an extended look at the action thanks to this new clip courtesy of Paramount. In the footage (shown above), Ryan (Chris Pine) is shown to a pretty sweet hotel suite in Moscow by a man named Emree (Nonso Anozie from 'Game of Thrones'), but things quickly take a turn for the deadly, as they often do in the action-packed, high-stakes world of the 'Jack Ryan' series.
It was recently announced that Paramount's big reboot of the 'Jack Ryan' franchise would be pushed to a January, 2014 release; a move that left many wondering if this was any indication of the film's quality. Is the studio dumping this film? Let's take a look at the new 'Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit' poster as well as some new photos to see what we can find out.
It's always surprising when high-profile movies change their opening days with only months or weeks to spare. So break out your calendars and raise your eyebrows, movie fans, because a few major Sony releases have shifted. Two of them are fairly minor, but the third definitely sends up a red flag or two.
Coming on the heels of the unfortunate news that author Tom Clancy passed away last night, the first poster for 'Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit' -- inspired by the character created by Clancy -- has been revealed. The poster for the film, which stars Chris Pine in the Ryan role, prominently features Clancy's name -- seems like a pretty fitting tribute to the late author.
Martin Scorsese's 'The Wolf of Wall Street,' which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Matthew McConaughey and Jonah Hill, was looking to be one of the most interesting films of 2013. But as of right now, it's not finished, in all likelihood will not be ready for its originally announced November 15 release date, and may take 'Jack Ryan''s release date and bump that film into 2014.
