Sometimes you have to wonder if writers are aware of just how much of their scripts inadvertently rip off or openly resemble other movies. For example, three writers are credited with ‘Pompeii’ – did it ever occur to any of them that their disaster film was ‘Titanic’ meets ‘Gladiator’ with a ‘Conan’ opening thrown in for good measure? Surely director Paul W.S. Anderson, the auteur responsible for the ‘Resident Evil’ film series, did, not that I imagine he cared.
After starring in the last 'Silent Hill' movie, Kit Harington continues his quest to extend beyond his "Jon Snow" character on 'Game of Thrones' with 'Pompeii,' a romance-action-'Gladiator' mashup directed by 'Resident Evil' helmer Paul W.S. Anderson. While the film probably isn't on the top of most moviegoers' lists of the most anticipated of 2014, the newly released photo gallery from Sony Pictures shows it'll have at least a few thrills for audiences ... and one menacing Kiefer Sutherland.
The 'Fantastic Four' reboot may have gone through a tumultuous scripting process, with Simon Kinberg the latest writer brought in on the project, but with a March 2015 release looming, the cast will need to fall into place shortly if they're going to make the date. And now five new names (and two old ones) have been mentioned for the roles of Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman and Johnny Storm/The Human Torch.
You know it because it's happened to you.
You settle into your seat at you local multiplex, excited to see the latest movie starring your favorite actor. The lights dim, the projector kicks into action, the movie starts and then
As one of the most popular actors on HBO's 'Game of Thrones,' Kit Harington is looking to turn geekdom's love of Jon Snow into a full-fledged leading man career. That plan may have stalled with 'Silent Hill: Revelation,' but he probably has a better chance with the upcoming 'Pompeii,' which casts the impossibly pretty actor as a gladiator fighting to survive in the titular doomed city. Our first look at the film has arrived, and while we don't see any of the promised volcanic destruction, we do get to see Mr. Harington's new physique, which is, uh, impressive.
We've already seen a teaser trailer for 'How to Train Your Dragon 2,' but we've known little about the voice cast this time around. During DreamWorks Animation's panel at Comic-Con this afternoon, the studio made a big casting announcement for the sequel, with actors Cate Blanchett, Kit Harington, and Djimon Hounson joining the line-up.
We're not entirely sure when Jeff Bridges officially became the go-to casting for "grizzled old mentor," but the 'Seventh Son' trailer shows him taking on that role yet again. In fact, the mere presence of Bridges elevates what otherwise looks like a fairly generic fantasy story into something that may be worth catching.
