ScreenCrush’s Comic Strip is a weekly roundup of the hottest superhero movie news items. From Marvel to DC and points in between, if it pertains to costumed comic-book heroes, we’re covering it here, bringing you our expert analysis. This week, we have 'Wolverine' soundtrack details, ‘Man of Steel’ sequel speculation and release dates for the next two ‘Spider-Man’ movies!
A ‘Man of Steel 2' was never in doubt. Warner Bros. hopes Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot serves the same purpose as Jon Favreau’s ‘Iron Man,’ introducing movie-going audiences to a familiar hero while laying the groundwork for a larger comic-book universe to unfold on screen.
So now that Snyder’s ‘Man of Steel’ has opened in theaters, collecting an estimated $125 million in its debut weekend, we can turn our attention to the next step in Warner’s burgeoning D.C. Comics plan. Instead of 'Justice League' or a Batman-Superman team up, it sounds like we’re going to get a second standalone ‘Man of Steel’ film to further flesh out this new world.
Here’s what we know so far about ‘Man of Steel 2.’
Yesterday the news hit - to the surprise of pretty much no one - that Warner Bros. is already in the early stages of preparing 'Man of Steel 2' with Zack Snyder, Christopher Nolan and David Goyer all back on board. Superman takes on General Zod in 'Man of Steel,' so which of his notorious foes would you like to see in the sequel?
There have been rumors since 'Man of Steel' began filming that Lex Luthor - despite not being the film's villain - would somehow make an appearance in the film, setting up 'Man of Steel 2' and other possible sequels. Today, we have even more fuel for the fire as the film's writer, David Goyer, has spoken out about whether we should expect to see Lex Luthor in 'Man of Steel.'
Early buzz is already out for Zack Snyder's upcoming 'Man of Steel,' which will see beloved DC character Superman back on the big screen. Though we're still a ways away from the film's June premiere, some are saying it's "kicking all kinds of ass," which is great news, considering past reports claimed the future of the 'Justice League' movie was riding on the response from Superman. Now, however, rumor has it that we might still have to wait a while as a 'Man of Steel 2' seems more likely to come before the DC team gets together.
