Fresh from its premiere at the Venice Film Festival (where it won the second place trophy) and screenings at the Toronto Film Festival, here is the trailer for Nocturnal Animals, the newest from from fashion designer and director Tom Ford. His follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2009 film A Single Man features an excellent cast, with Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal as the two leads. Adams plays an art gallery owner who receives a manuscript from her ex-husband (Gyllenhaal) in which the character clearly inspired by her (and played by Isla Fisher in films from the book-within-the-film) meets a horrible fate.

‘Nocturnal Animals’ Review: Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal and Lots of Tom Ford Style

There’s no doubting Tom Ford has an impeccable eye. The fashion designer-cum-film director knows how to dress people, and in his second feature Nocturnal Animals, he wastes no opportunity to aestheticize the sadness and cynicism of his well dressed cast.

‘Arrival’ Review: Amy Adams Takes an Emotional Sci-Fi Journey

The 50th anniversary of Star Trek this week really put in perspective just how long we’ve been living with the concept of extraterrestrial. In 2016, there’s something downright familiar about aliens, maybe because in most situations our conception of them remains rooted in our conception of ourselves: They look like us with pointy ears or a ribbed nose, or they don’t look like us, but they behave like us, with motivations and actions that are easily recognizable and understandable. One of Arrival’s greatest achievements is the way it makes alien seem alien again: Strange and inhuman and beyond the limits of our comprehension. It readjusts our thinking about what life on other worlds might be like. And in doing so, it also readjusts our thinking about what life on our world can be like.

Tom Ford’s long-awaited follow-up to A Single Man just premiered at TIFF, and the early reactions from critics have been rather glowing — that’s bittersweet news for fans of Ford, who will have to wait just a little longer to see the fashion designer and director’s latest project, Nocturnal Animals. Thankfully, these intriguingly stylish new character posters will help bide the time (kind of) until we can at least see the first trailer.

Anticipation for Arrival to, well, arrive is pretty high, with several cinephiles eager to experience the latest effort from Denis Villeneuve — the director of last year’s exquisitely intense Sicario. If you’re feeling particularly anxious to see more from the new sci-fi drama, Sony has released two new clips that expand upon a couple of scenes from the trailer, in which Amy Adams’ expert linguist first meets our unearthly visitors.

If an alien species were to visit Earth with mysterious intentions, it just makes sense that we’d send Amy Adams to represent humankind. She’s empathetic, she’s approachable, she’s understanding, and she’s the total antithesis of the hostile and aggressive types we see facing off aliens in most sci-fi movies. (At least this is how I like to picture Amy Adams.)

The first photos from Denis Villeneuve‘s latest film Arrival debuted earlier this week, and they revealed a big oval shaped object behind Amy Adams. This is a movie about aliens so could it be a spaceship...

We don’t know a whole lot about Arrival, but what we do know is enough to make it one of our most anticipated films of the year: The new sci-fi drama (previously titled Story of Your Life) comes from Sicario and Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve and stars Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner, and while we anxiously await an official trailer, the first photos have, well, arrived.

The ‘Batman v Superman’ Ultimate Edition Is a More Ambitious Movie - But Not Necessarily a Better One

“In a democracy,” says Holly Hunter’s Senator Finch in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, “good is a conversation, not a unilateral decision.” The 32 minutes added to the movie’s “Ultimate Edition,” now available digitally and released on Blu-ray and DVD July 19, include a lot of unnecessary shoe leather, and fills in gaps that don’t need the extra gob of narrative spackle.

To say we’re excited for a new Denis Villeneuve film is an understatement. After the fantastic triple-threat of Prisoners, Enemy and Sicario, the director is moving on to the realm of sci-fi with Story of Your Life and Blade Runner 2. Before the latter arrives next year, we have the former to look forward to, with a cast that includes Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner — and it looks like it just got a title change and an official release date.
