Director Nancy Meyers ('Somethings Gotta Give,' 'It's Complicated') is criticized for writing and directing movies tailor made for upper-middle class white people. They're not bad, simply insidious for painting a fantasy world of luxury where the biggest challenges become surviving family vacations in mansion-sized summer homes. Bougie.
Meyers might take less flack if Hollywood made an attempt to diversify in the slightest. “Minorities” (in quotes because they're just as dominant and important to the success of the entertainment industry and country as the “majority”) deserve their schmaltzy, shiny, melodramadies too, and they stand to be watchable. 'The Best Man Holiday' is the answer to this conundrum.

FOX's forthcoming M. Night Shyamalan limited series 'Wayward Pines' has made some significant Hollywood castings in recent weeks, and today shows no signs of slowing down. Former 'Iron Man' and 'Law & Order' star Terrence Howard has officially joined the drama in a regular role, but whom will he play?

Is it cynical to look at the trailer for 'Winnie' and immediately wonder if stars Jennifer Hudson and Terrence Howard have Oscar on their minds? Sure, a bit. But let's not kid around: you don't sign up to play Nelson Mandela and Winnie Mandela in a movie without the thought at least flashing through your head.

Take this information with a grain of salt, but unless we're mistaken Terrence Howard may have gotten himself a little karmic payback for his 'Iron Man' exit, 'Hawaii Five-0' style.  Earlier it was reported that Ving Rhames would appear in a flashback-heavy episode of the tropical CBS procedural but now another report has emerged placing Terrence Howard in the same episode, with nary a mention of Rhames.  Is a switcheroo afoot, or does the episode have that much star power?

IFC Films/Sundance Selects
The last time a "fine artist" made the big transition to film, we watched Steve McQueen craft two great films ('Hunger' and 'Shame') with Michael Fassbender. If he can do it, why can't acclaimed painter, photographer and metal works artist Andrew Levitas? His directorial debut, 'Lullaby,' has already attracted a cast that screams "OSCAR!" at the tops of its lungs.
