Weekend Box Office Report: ‘Madagascar 3′ and ‘Prometheus’ Remain Supreme

Box Office Report: Madagascar 3
Paramount/Dreamworks

For those of us who follow the box office, this weekend was a case of deja vu. Once again, 'Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted' headlined the top ten and once again, 'Prometheus' snatched the number two spot. Both films managed to keep their momentum despite the opening of two new releases starring two of the biggest movie stars in the world. That's good news if you're 'Madagascar 3' or 'Prometheus,' but pretty bad news if you're Tom Cruise or Adam Sandler.

‘That’s My Boy’ Review

That's My Boy
Sony Pictures

I'm not sure exactly when it happened, but at some point along the way the words “A Happy Madison Production” stopped meaning a silly, fun, dirty-at-times but altogether entertaining movie and started meaning avoid at all costs. I'd have to look at the facts and figures but by the time Adam Sandler was sitting in a kiddie pool full of blue pee, I gave up on him.

'That's My Boy' has more than enough pee jokes of its own (so much pee) but it's also got something else – Adam Sandler playing a character. It takes about sixty seconds with him as Bud-swilling, foul-mouthed, walking id Donnie Berger to - well, maybe admire is the wrong word, so let's say eagerly - sign on for a movie-length ride.

Andy Samberg Interview: ‘That’s My Boy,’ Leaving ‘SNL’ and Vanilla Ice

Andy Samberg
Sony Pictures

'That's My Boy' hits theaters tomorrow, and in the film Andy Samberg plays Todd, the son of Donny (Adam Sandler), a crude, obnoxious guy who became famous as a teen for bedding his teacher. Todd was the result of that statutory affair, and fled home (and his insane dad) at 18 to start his life over. But when the washed-up, beer-guzzling Donny gets into some trouble with the IRS, he tracks Todd down on the eve of his wedding and shenanigans ensue.

We spoke with Samberg today about his role in the movie, crossing over from 'SNL,' working with one of his comedy heroes, and yes, 'MacGruber 2.'

NSFW ‘That’s My Boy’ Trailer: Too Many Curses to Count

Sony
Sony

From what we’re hearing (and what we’ve been able to see), Sean Anders’ ‘That’s My Boy’ is Adam Sandler’s full-fledged foray into hard-R comedy. F-bombs, gratuitous nudity … by all accounts, it’s Sandler doing the polar opposite of ‘Jack & Jill.’ And that’s a good thing. The latest red-band trailer continues to sell that line. We have it for you below.

Andy Samberg Made His Own Trailer for ‘That’s My Boy’

Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg
Columbia Pictures

They've already had red-band and green-band trailers for Sean Anders' 'That's My Boy,' but it seems star Andy Samberg felt they lacked a personal touch. It also seems he felt they didn't highlight the film's fictional star-power, which includes Tom Cruise a gun-firing Rastafarian Hulk, and a sardine can full of comedy stars. Check out Samberg's cut of the trailer...

Green Band Trailer for ‘That’s My Boy’ Isn’t Much Better

That's My Boy
Columbia Pictures

A green band trailer for the new Adam Sandler-starring, Happy Madison-produced 'That's My Boy' has been released online, and it's not clear exactly how this is a green band trailer, aside from a noticeably absent use of the F-bomb escaping Sandler's lips between his "dippity-do" schtick.

Watch Adam Sandler Continue to Squander Remaining Goodwill in ‘That’s My Boy’ Trailer [NSFW]

That's My Boy
Columbia Pictures

If last year was the year of the complex, regressive woman with genre-spanning films from 'Bridesmaids' to 'Young Adult' to 'Melancholia,' 2012 is certainly shaping up to be the year of the Douche Bro. Behold: Adam Sandler's latest "effort" (can we even call this an effort anymore?) 'That's My Boy.'
