Sorry, Lady Gaga – no American Crime Story for you, just yet. As production gears up for Seasons 2 and 3 of Ryan Murphy’s FX anthology, the third, Versace year officially has its Donatella. Despite early casting rumors, Penélope Cruz has landed the role of the iconic fashion mogul, sister to the slain Gianni.
American Crime Story
We’re likely to dip band and forth between major castings for Seasons 2 and 3 of Ryan Murphy’s FX American Crime Story (they do shoot back-to-back), and the pendulum has now swung to Katrina. Matthew Broderick joins the franchise as a key FEMA figure in the title American Crime; second (technically third) to join the cast.
Ryan Murphy’s American FX future got a major shot in the arm this week, between announcement of a Season 7 Horror theme and the major players of Versace Crime, and we’re already looking ahead to the Lewsinsky season of American Crime Story. Sarah Paulson is of course eyed for a role, in what might be her most transformative look yet.
We’ve barely begun staffing out the second, Katrina-themed season of FX’s American Crime Story, but already Season 3 has its title characters. Not only is the Versace of our third American Crime Story cast, but so too will Glee and Flash star Darren Criss provide the titular crime.
We’ll still have to wait until 2018 for the second season of Ryan Murphy’s FX American Crime Story, but Katrina is starting off strong with new cast. Annette Bening is joining the Emmy-winner’s second season (officially dubbed Katrina: American Crime Story) in a governing role.
The People v. O.J. Simpson made for an appropriate first season of American Crime Story, though the second season’s focus on Katrina and subsequent topics expand the definition of “Crime Story.” Now, Ryan Murphy offers insight into how O.J., Katrina and Gianni Versace open up different conversations, and why we may never see the courtroom again.
We were surprised enough when FX confirmed that Ryan Murphy’s American Crime Story was already plotting a third season around the murder of Gianni Versace, but get ready for Season 4! Yes, even with Season 2's Katrina-based season delayed to 2018, Ryan Murphy is already plotting a season around the Monica Lewinsky scandal.
FX has had little trouble securing awards in recent years, but 2017 may be a tricky one. Not only is Atlanta delayed to 2018, but the Katrina-based second season of American Crime Story won’t bow until next year either. At the very least, Season 3 will shortly follow.
Asked to recall the most endearing pair of The People v. O.J. Simpson, what would you say? Certainly not John Travolta and Courtney B. Vance, or David Schwimmer and a glass of juice, but Sarah Paulson and Sterling K. Brown’s Marcia Clark and Chris Darden. Ryan Murphy may yet get those two crazy kids together, as Brown is reportedly in for the second, Katrina-focused season.
If you thought perhaps Lady Gaga had the short end of the stick sculpture in American Horror Story Season 6, Ryan Murphy might make up for it in a big way. Reports claim that Gaga will take a major role in the third (yes, third) season of American Crime Story, portraying Donatella Versace herself.
