Arrow

'Arrow' is The CW and Warner Bros. Television's hit DC superhero series, based on comic book character Green Arrow. Stephen Amell, known previously for roles in HBO's 'Hung' and ABC's 'Private Practice,' stars on 'Arrow' in the lead role as Central City's hooded, arrow-slinging vigilante. After being stranded on a island for five years, he returns home with a new set of skills and a need to rid his home city of corruption. Over the course of the series, 'Arrow' introduced a plethora of DC comic book characters in live action, including Black Canary, Huntress, villains Deadshot and Bronze Tiger, and even Barry Allen (aka The Flash). 'Glee' star Grant Gustin was cast in the role of DC's super speedster and will portray the hero in his own 'The Flash' pilot with the potential to continue as a series.

Arrow gave us a quick glimpse at both Talia al Ghul and a new Black Canary in last week’s 2017 premiere “Who Are You,” but you won’t have to wait for Wednesday to get a closer look at either. See for yourself in new photos from this week’s “Second Chances,” as Oliver trains with Ra’s al Ghul’s daughter in flashback, while attempting to recruit a new teammate in the present.

It wasn’t terribly likely of Arrow to introduce Laurel back into the mix without some caveat, and Wednesday’s “Who Are You?” gave at least several. Not only was that not our Black Canary, but a new songstress has arisen in Hub City; apparently with significantly more skills. At least per the extended “Second Chances” trailer.

For the most part, Arrow has managed to keep continuity in order as the flashbacks interact with present day, though word of Lexa Doig’s Talia al Ghul appearing in Oliver’s Russian past raised a few questions. Thankfully, producers promise that Talia’s appearance won’t throw too many wrenches in the works, and might just give us a Nyssa-Talia meeting one day.

The CW already seemingly spoiled the explanation behind Arrow returning one of its biggest characters in midseason finale “What You Leave Behind,” but there’s wiggle room yet. Case in point, an extended 2017 trailer for next week’s “Who Are You?” hints at a Flashpoint explanation, along with new wrinkles to the Prometheus story.

The Arrow-verse technically introduced us to Ra’s al Ghul’s daughter Talia once before, but the famed Batman character’s visit to Oliver’s world has been a mystery until now. A new synopsis for February’s “Second Chances” sees Oliver teaming up with Bruce Wayne’s sometime love interest, albeit at a deadly cost.

Arrow took a surprising swing in Season 4 to kill off a major character like Katie Cassidy’s Black Canary, though it wasn’t long before word suggested Laurel might have a presence in Season 5. The most recent 2017 premiere promo seemed overwhelmingly to spoil that presence, though producers take it further to suggest a Black Canary is “always going to be there.”
