Director Todd Haynes has not made a feature film since 2007's I’m Not There, although he did direct the excellent five-part Mildred Pierce miniseries for HBO back in 2011. Fans of the director will be thrilled to watch this new trailer for Carol, Haynes’ first film in eight years — and it looks like a real stunner.

‘Cinderella’ Review: This Fairy Tale Still Has the Magic
The name “Disney” brings to mind images of fair princesses, charming princes, magical fairy tales, and simple happily ever afters. In recent years, though, Disney has begun rethinking their classic properties, and releasing more thematically complex versions of their famous films. Sleeping Beauty became Maleficent, which turned a wicked witch into a sympathetic anti-hero; a whole mess of fairy tales turned into Into the Woods, where happily ever after preceded a whole bunch of death and tragedy. The ranks of Disney Princesses grew to include women like Merida, the bow-slinging heroine of Brave, and Anna and Else from Frozen, who rescued each other from an prince, rather than the other way around. Every value and concept that Disney had established and reinforced through decades of repetition was seemingly up for reconsideration and revision.

Best Actress at the 2014 Oscars went to Cate Blanchett for her role in 'Blue Jasmine' - a win many saw coming as the actress pretty much swept all the awards leading up to this point. But, whether you saw it coming or not, it was a win that was very much deserved.

'The Monuments Men' Review
“They don't make 'em like that anymore!” That's what my old man always liked to say when we'd watch a black and white Hollywood classic. Sometimes he meant it as a sign of respect. Sometimes he meant it to mean, "Wow, that was super cheesy." George Clooney's 'The Monuments Men' goes right down the middle.

So now, by default, it's one of our most anticipated movies of this year, and its February 7 release date can't come soon enough. To help whet your appetite, a few new images and featurettes from the film have made their way online, serving as a helpful reminder that ensembles don't ge

Our Favorite Female-Driven Films and Performances of 2013
It's that time of the year: time for top 10 lists, time to start gearing up for awards season, and picking the contenders and ensuring we shout their names in all caps from behind our laptops, and a time for critics to champion our favorite movies and performances -- which is why I think it's time to take a look back at my favorite female-centric (and gender politic-centric) films and female performances of 2013.
