Hope of hopes, the long-awaited Deadwood revival got our hopes ups a few months back with talk that the movie reunion had finally gotten off the ground, but in the world of TV, months can be a lifetime. Now, HBO’s president swears up and down that the movie will happen, just as soon as David Milch finds the opportunity (and cast).

A sad day for fans of Ralph Richeson and Deadwood alike, as the actor behind one of the most memorable, if overlooked characters of the HBO series has passed away. The breakout David Milch star was well-remembered for his soft-spoken turn as Richardson, one of the HBO western’s resident fixtures.

Reviving old TV series practically seems like old hat at this point, though HBO’s Deadwood ranks up among Firefly as a fabled reunion we’d come to relinquish hope for. Well, you may want to start practicing your swears, as HBO has unofficially resumed negotiations for a Deadwood movie, as confirmed by one its stars.
