Star Wars fans went wild for the news that Buffy herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar would join her husband Freddie Prinze Jr. for the second season of Star Wars Rebels, speculation abundant she might voice a young Princess Leia. Gellar had a bit of fun with the rumor as well, but reveals a far more sinister role for the second Rebels ride.

Great though it was to go through the Guardians of the Galaxy backstory one by one, we’re ready to see the full team in action with a sneak peek at Saturday’s animated series debut. Thankfully, Rocket has just the explosive-laden clip to prime us for the newest adventures of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Groot and his ferocious furry friend.
Whether or not James Gunn disputes their canonicity with the films, Disney XD’s Guardians of the Galaxy shorts already have us aboard the new series by filling in gaps the MCU may never get around to. Rounding out the ranks of our beloved criminal super-team is none other than Gamora, and her deadly rivalries with both Nebula and Korath.
As Hannibal fans this weekend (and billions of others before them) can attest, too long has the antiquated Nielsen ratings system given an incomplete picture of a show’s viewership, swaying networks to and fro of cancellation. We may finally have some progress however, as Nielsen will begin taking into account streaming data from the likes of Hulu, Netflix and beyond.
We know, we know. Star Wars Rebels Season 2 already premiered a sample of its second round by the stellar “Siege of Lothal,” but the real debut of new Star Wars Rebels has at last set its premiere. Lock down your hyperdrives for October, when the crew of the Ghost takes on the mantle of Star Wars Rebels once more for Season 2.
We don’t yet know how deeply the next Guardians of the Galaxy will delve into the history of its core five (save for Star-Lord’s pappy), while Disney XD’s upcoming animated series has taken care to introduce detailed origins glossed over by the films. Next up is Drax the Destroyer, whose history with Ronan the Accuser may have been more complicated than we realize.
Disney kept Star Wars Rebels out of Comic-Con 2015 and only had so much to offer at D23, but us New Yorkers are in for a treat come NYCC in October. Not only will New York Comic-Con screen the first two episodes of Star Wars Rebels Season 2, but so too have we intercepted the Empire’s panel plans.
One of the more interesting elements of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy animated series has afforded movie-influenced backstories to each character, that while not necessarily canon, offer insightful looks into the character history James Gunn could only exposit in the film. Next up comes Rocket Raccoon, whose gruesome origins are a tough one to tackle for Disney XD.
