Jason Reitman to Resurrect His Live Read Series With an All-Female ‘Juno’

From an outsider’s perspective, it seems like one of the most fun events in Los Angeles is filmmaker Jason Reitman’s semi-regular Live Read series. The series  —  where Reitman’s large stable of actor friends take on various roles from classic Hollywood movies  —  gives audiences a chance to hear old favorites in a slightly new way, often mixing together original cast members with new faces and genderswapping key roles to a surprisingly poignant effect. Past highlights have included the original cast of True Romance reuniting for a Live Read and the first public performance of Quentin Tarantino’s in-progress The Hateful Eight screenplay.

Will Forte and Ellen Page Lend Their Voices to ‘My Life As a Zucchini’ Trailer

by Charles Bramesco January 20, 2017 @ 10:31 AM
Foreign films have historically done pretty well in the Best Animated Feature category at the Academy Awards, with at least one import usually squeezing into the nominations alongside the latest pictures from Disney or Pixar. Last year included Brazil’s Boy and the World as well as Japan’s When Marnie Was There, and while the likes of Kubo and the Two Strings, Moana, Finding Dory and Zootopia have all but sewn up their nominations for the 2017 ceremony (check back on the 24th to find out!), that leaves room for one wild card. It could be The Red Turtle, the latest animated film with a Studio Ghibli pedigree, or it could be a poignant and sweet little Swiss picture My Life as a Zucchini.

‘Tallulah’ Trailer: Ellen Page Steals a Baby, But It’s For a Good Reason...Kind Of

by Britt Hayes June 29, 2016 @ 2:48 PM
Tallulah is like the bleak, bizarro version of Juno: It stars Ellen Page and Allison Janney, but instead of giving a baby away, Page steals one from an ill-equipped mom and tries to pass it off as her own. The new drama received mostly positive reviews at Sundance, and before it debuts on Netflix next month, you can watch the first trailer to see what all the fuss is about.

Despite the existence of The Lazarus Effect, Sony is still moving forward with their remake of Flatliners. As announced last fall, Ellen Page will lead the redo of the 1990 sci-fi classic, and if you assumed the lack of news about the forthcoming project implied that Page would be playing all the roles herself, Malkovich-style, you were wrong — today brings word that Page will not be alone, as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Diego Luna has joined her for Flatliners.

‘Flatliners’ Remake Eyes Ellen Page for Julia Roberts Role

The idea of a Flatliners remake inspires mixed feelings: it is both predictable in our ongoing remake- and nostalgia-driven pop culture landscape, and...kind of confusing, since we basically already had a remake of Flatliners earlier this year with The Lazarus Effect. But that film was fairly underwhelming, so perhaps a straight remake of the ’90s classic will succeed where The Lazarus Effect failed, starting with the casting of Ellen Page.

‘Freeheld’ Review: Julianne Moore and Ellen Page in a Shameless Tearjerker

by Matt Singer September 13, 2015 @ 11:23 PM
The characters in Freeheld repeatedly tell one another that “life isn’t fair” — and with good reason. The film is about a decorated police officer who spent most of her life hiding her homosexuality to avoid discrimination and bigotry. After years in the closet, she finally falls in love and enters into a domestic partnership, only to be stricken with terminal cancer. All she wants to do is award her pension to her partner so that she can afford to keep their house, but the local government denies her request simply because her partner happens to be a woman. Every single aspect of this scenario is unfair.

And lo, Hannibal has come to a very permanent-seeming end, closing out Season 3 with a redux of the Red Dragon arc that saw its two leads on a very literal cliffhanger, and another character losing quite a bit of limb. Continually optimistic about a movie wrap-up, creator Bryan Fuller talks his idea for Season 4 and the inevitable Silence of the Lambs treatment, which may or may not involve Ellen Page and David Bowie.

‘Freeheld’ Trailer: Julianne Moore and Ellen Page Fight for Their Rights

by Jacob Hall July 23, 2015 @ 11:46 AM
The Freeheld trailer presents a “based on true events” period piece drama that is all about the social injustices of another era. Unlike most movies cut from this cloth, this particular case of social injustice isn’t being remembered several decades later, but only 10 years after the fact. The story of a lesbian couple’s battle for equal treatment in the eyes of the law, Freeheld couldn’t have landed in a more appropriate year. 2015 has been a year of victories for the LGBT community and this trailer is a reminder of how quickly change has come and just how many worlds away 2005 is from today.

New 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' Photos Show Off Two Timelines of Mutants

by Jacob Hall February 19, 2014 @ 11:10 AM
The main thrust of the advertising campaign for 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' is that the film will contain characters from both the original 'X-Men' franchise and prequel film 'X-Men: First Class,' making this one of the biggest superhero movies ever made. Although the trailer and previous images have given us looks at this enormous ensemble of black leather-clad mutant warriors, the film's official site revealed a series of character portraits, giving us our best look at 17 of the characters.
