It's hard to ignore that many of 2013's biggest movies could have come out in 2012, and would have if they weren't bumped around the schedule. Though 'Gangster Squad' came first and 'Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters' will be here shortly, we're most curious about 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' which was scheduled for last June, but doesn't come out until this March. Now there's a new international TV spot, and we're still curious.
G.I. Joe: Retaliation
When Paramount Pictures abruptly decided to pull 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' off their release slate last year - just one month before it was to open - rumors began flying that the reason was to add more Channing Tatum, who unexpectedly became a sizable box office draw thanks to movies like 'The Vow' and '21 Jump Street' but was just a supporting player in the sequel.
Today, 'Joe' producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura has squashed all hope of a significant extra amount of Tatum. Read the producer's words on the matter after the break.
The G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence.
Fans have been trying to cope with the grim reality that we won't be seeing 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' not next month, but in March of 2013. But if you think you have it bad, at least you're not a retailer who has to yank all of that wonderful 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' merchandise off of their store shelves (unless you are a retailer, and then... we're sorry).
Earlier today, Paramount moved 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' into March of 2013. They said it was because they were worried they'd get crushed internationally by other pictures, and thought post-conversion and a March release would help. What they initially danced around were any reshoots. Dwayne Johnson has fessed up: They're going back to film some more.
