There’s no exact science to Marvel’s Netflix series announcing renewals, as both Jessica Jones and Luke Cage got pickups well after premiere day. Enthusiasm for Iron Fist isn’t anywhere near as high, but if you take Finn Jones’ word for it, we might get that Season 2 announcement before long.

Marvel’s Netflix Iron Fist was beset by a number of challenges, not the least of which included the absence of Danny Rand’s classic costume. Star Finn Jones is optimistic we’ll see the look in Season 2, and even has a few ideas, should Iron Fist move forward with a second season.

We’ve known as far back as Marvel’s Netflix Daredevil that one Hand-y threat would connect us to Iron Fist and everything in between, but has someone been pulling The Defenders’ strings all along? That’s what Luke Cage star Mike Colter says, claiming the same unseen villain has been manipulating all four series.

Months ahead of its premiere, Marvel’s Netflix Defenders are fully assembled with a proper trailer, teasing some Elektra-fying threats and crossovers for the street-level heroes. We couldn’t help diving way deeper into every frame of footage, to find every secret in anticipation of The Defenders hitting the streets this summer.

Just yesterday, Marvel seemed to hint at a need for Defenders against a resurrected threat, and now we know why. The war for New York is officially on, as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist unite in the first full Defenders trailer!

Spider-Man is simultaneously the closest and furthest from Marvel’s Netflix Defenders; a street-level New York hero, but one whose relationship with the MCU is tied with another studio. Iron Fist seems least of all the Marvel hero to meet the wall-crawler, yet a curious change in Netflix’s Italian dub makes reference to Spidey.

Now that we know Marvel’s Defenders will assemble in August, the game is on for official photos and footage. Thankfully, Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada has sprung into action with a gorgeous new illustrated poster for the four Netflix heroes.

Those disappointed with Iron Fist were encouraged to compare the Season 2 premiere of Into the Badlands that very weekend, and the AMC drama has now surprisingly come to the Netflix hero’s defense. Badlands star Daniel Wu says claims of Iron Fist’s whitewashing were “a little too precocious,” defending the Ghost in the Shell controversy as well.

Whether or not Marvel’s Iron Fist succeeded in bringing the character to life, few would argue the oddity of Season 1 never attempting any outfit to evoke the classic costume. It would be odder still if The Defenders never gave all four heroes a chance to fight side-by-side in their comic looks, but according to Charlie Cox, Iron Fist might not suit up in The Defenders either.
