It was recently announced that Jenna-Louise Coleman is leaving 'Doctor Who' later this year, following the annual Christmas Special. At that point, she'll have played the role of Clara Oswald (in some iteration) for 25 episodes, making her one of the longest-running companions of the eponymous Doctor. This position has traditionally been filled by a younger white woman, though the Doctor has occasionally taken on a male companion, but while the modern version of the series has seen some diversity, Clara's exit provides an opportunity for showrunner Steven Moffatt to once again pair the Doctor with a companion who subverts expectations.

The BBC's longrunning 'Doctor Who' will land in a brand-new era on August 23 with the official season 8 premiere of Peter Capaldi's tenure as The Doctor, but very little else looks to have changed. The network has revealed a brand-new trailer for the season premiere "Deep Breath," and if dinosaurs and the Paternoster gang don't get your 'Who' fandom in motion, there's always robot Victorians and nightshirts!
The good 'Doctor Who' may not have landed at Comic-Con 2014 last week, but Peter Capaldi and Jenna-Louise Coleman will be everywhere in the next month as fans prepare for the global season 8 premiere on August 23. To boot, we've got brand-new photos of the new 'Doctor Who''s first "Deep Breath," along with a synopsis, and details of fan screening events!
Earlier this month, 'Doctor Who' showrunner Steven Moffat teased a "big introduction" and a "dynamic" hour of television for the series' eighth season premiere, and nothing says "big" and "dynamic" quite like a giant viewing on a massive screen. The BBC has just announced that they are indeed going literal with Moffat's promise: the new season premiere will bow on a big screen near you.
The BBC's 'Doctor Who' has played a bit coy with its recent teasers introducing Peter Capaldi as the 12th incarnation of our beloved Time Lord for season 8, but the World Cup brings everything out into the open. See dinosaurs in London, robot faces and exploding TARDIS abound in the first full trailer for 'Doctor Who' season 8, coming this August!
Early teases of 'Doctor Who''s upcoming eighth season, the first to feature Peter Capaldi in the role of our new Time Lord have largely focused on a crashing TARDIS and familiar voices, without any actual footage. Now, our first real look at season 8 premiere "Deep Breath" has arrived with a brand-new photo, and more teases of the episodes to come!
Fourth of July though it may be, we suspect our friends in the U.K. will be celebrating for vastly different reasons. Perhaps shall we say, for a new 'Doctor Who' season 8 trailer teaser that pits our new Time Lord Peter Capaldi against a Dalek menace with the TARDIS exploding all around him? Oh, indeed! Who's ready for some 'Doctor Who' fireworks?
Apart from its recent premiere announcement and a handful of cast announcements, 'Doctor Who' season 8 has done a good job keeping the adventures of Peter Capaldi's twelfth Doctor under wraps. Now, however, a new set photo reveals at least one major 'Who' baddie clanking their way through the season, along with another villainous cast addition.
The other day we were dismayed to learn that 'Doctor Who' would skip out on Comic-Con 2014 in favor of its global tour introducing Peter Capaldi as the the newest iteration of our beloved Time Lord, but there's good news yet. The powers that be at BBC have officially confirmed 'Doctor Who' season 8 for an August premiere, along with a brand new teaser with some heavy questions for The Doctor!
Anyone who's been to San Diego Comic-Con in recent years knows that the 'Doctor Who' panel can be something of a madhouse, particularly as this past year showed off snippets of the 50th anniversary special between (former) series stars Matt Smith and David Tennant. Well, we've got good news and bad, as it seems fans at Comic-Con 2014 won't have to worry about lining up for a panel.
