The last time we heard from the Harry Potter sort-of-prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, newly minted Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne had been cast as “magic-zoologist” Newt Scamander. Now, the J.K. Rowling-written, David Yates-directed production is seeking out its female leads and a batch of surprising names have emerged as potential candidates.

Hey girl, not long ago it was rumored that ‘Lost River,’ the directorial debut from Ryan Gosling, would be heading straight to VOD—but that rumor was quickly debunked, and we’ll be seeing Baby Goose’s new movie in April. Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for the upcoming film, which is scheduled to play at SXSW in March after making the festival rounds last year, where it garnered some mixed-to-negative reviews.

Just a couple of months ago, we found out that ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ was adding some new mutants to the cast—well, not exactly new, but they are looking to cast younger versions of familiar faces. Namely, Scott Summers (aka Cyclops) and Jean Grey. Several names were in the mix, including Elle Fanning and Chloe Moretz, and today brings news of even more young stars being considered for the roles.

After a tortured development, it looks like the much-talked-about 'Fantastic Four' reboot is finally starting to gain some real traction. The current word is that Simon Kinberg's rewrite of the script is finally finished and going out to actors, who will soon audition in various combinations to see who clicks. The 'Fantastic Four' reboot may have gone through a tumultuous scripting process, with Simon Kinberg the latest writer brought in on the project, but with a March 2015 release looming, the cast will need to fall into place shortly if they're going to make the date. And now five new names (and two old ones) have been mentioned for the roles of Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman and Johnny Storm/The Human Torch.

Though we're still months away from production, rumors about who's in 'Star Wars: Episode 7' are likely to persist until the movie screens for audiences. The latest round of rumoring is that Saoirse Ronan is up for a role, and that -- contrary to the denials -- Benedict Cumberbatch is very much in the new trilogy.

'Violet and Daisy,' the directorial debut from Geoffrey Fletcher (Academy Award-winning screenwriter of 'Precious,' of all things), stars Saoirse Ronan and Alexis Bledel as two teenage assassins. The film struggles to showcase the duplicitous nature of societal projections onto young women with its twee style and stylized dialogue, and even a look beneath the surface finds little else beyond its saccharine trappings.
