Steven Soderbergh is the busiest retired person on the planet. He may have quit (movie) directing in 2013, but he’s still hard at work. He was the cinematographer and editor on this summer’s Magic Mike XXL, and he’s already pumped out two seasons of the Cinemax series The Knick.

Steven Soderbergh is no stranger to playing with format, but the Magic Mike director’s latest might require a new Emmy category, by his own admission. Soderbergh has reportedly begun work on a new HBO movie titled Mosaic, featuring Sharon Stone and a unique option that lets audiences choose the ending.

When Clive Owen’s John Thackery says “I feel better than ever” in the new Season 2 trailer for The Knick, it’s hard to take that at face value — or any value, really. Last we saw Thackery, he was holed up in a nice rehab home for his cocaine addiction, where he was being treated with a revolutionary new drug: heroin. Hardly a promising ending for the brilliant, spun-out doctor, but whether he’s actually better or not, Thackery is back.

Steven Soderbergh’s early 20th century period medical drama is gorgeously cinematic and exquisitely intense, and may be some of the filmmaker’s finest work to date. Today brings our first look at Season 2 via an appropriately unnerving and slightly surreal teaser — in addition to revealing a quarantine in San Francisco, the teaser also promises an October premiere.

Magic Mike was a movie about strippers trying to make ends meet in the midst of the Great Recession, the difficulty of modern romance, and the dangers of drug use. Magic Mike XXL is a movie about strippers stripping. And not a whole lot else.

Now she's getting even more love from Channing Tatum and his crew with a role in 'Magic Mike 2,' which officially revealed the full cast roster and plot details.

Well alright, alright, alriiiiii -- wait a minute. Although it was previously confirmed by 'Magic Mike XXL' director Greg Jacobs that the entire cast would be returning for the upcoming sequel, it seems that's not quite the case: Matthew McConaughey, who played veteran strip club ringleader Dallas in the first film, will not be making an appearance after all. Commence the booing.
