They might be called The Expendables, but the team is losing one of its key members as Sylvester Stallone is officially parting ways with the franchise he helped create. Following a crucial dispute over the creative direction for the fourth chapter in the ensemble action series, Stallone has walked away from the project — and from what would be his biggest paycheck yet, which says something substantial about his stake in the franchise.

To quote our illustrious new Commander-in-Chief: “China. China China China. CHIIIIINA. China. China. China China China China. CHINA. China!” Our friends to the East have been gobbling up real estate in Hollywood at a rate that would be alarming if it didn’t bring us The Great Wall, which ruled, so things are cool for now. But the influence of China’s entertainment economy has become unavoidable among studio films, with Asian entertainment conglomerate Wanda recently purchasing Legendary and Paramount selling a 25% stake in their next three years of projects to Shanghai Film Group and Huahua Media. Today brings news of another Hollywood takeover spearheaded by a Chinese company, with nothing less than American icon John Rambo caught in the middle.

The Expendables is a good time. Sylvester Stallone and his almost-over-the-hill pals unite in an explosion-filled thriller flick that sees all of our dads’ favorite action heroes team up to fight crime and save the world. The two sequels were less of a fun time, each one more repetitive and earning less at the box office than the last, but it looks like the buddies will be reuniting for one last ride in 2018.

The success of FOX’s 24: Live Another Day event series got the ball rolling on a number of other ideas, from The X-Files to Enourmous, but their latest short-burn effort is even more expendable. Sylvester Stallone is reportedly developing a limited series TV rendition of The Expendables, uniting some of TV’s biggest stars for a new action-drama.

Call us suckers, but going by the new trailer for 'The Expendables 3,' we think this may be the one that finally gets it right. Both 'The Expendables' and 'The Expendables 2' were well-meaning but sloppy nostalgia exercises, but we're hoping that the third time is the charm and that this one will be a well-meaning and actually entertaining nostalgia exercise.

The 'Expendables' franchise has one thing going for it: nothing else can top it when it comes to the sheer number of interesting and noteworthy actors on screen. So it's not too surprising when 'The Expendables 3' drops 16 character posters on the same day because of course 'The Expendables 3' would have 16 characters important enough to warrant their own character posters.

With 'The Expendables 3' uniting some of the familiar teammates with new blood to tackle Mel Gibson's Conrad Stonebanks (yes, that is his name) on August 15, none seem more excited for the action to come than your favorite NBA players. They've even banded together to form their own 'Expendables'-like crew for an action-packed spoof video, 'The Relativityavengerables.' It's a tongue twister.
