No one expected 'The Hunger Games' to do as well as it did. Sure, everyone was expecting a big hit, but no one was expecting the major blockbuster numbers the film pulled off when it was released back in March. Naturally, Lionsgate did the fiscally (if not creatively) responsible thing: they put a sequel on the front burner and turned up the heat. Today, it was revealed that 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' is set to begin filming in Atlanta this July.
Looks like #33 won't be hitting the Hunger Games field anytime soon. Taylor Kitsch, known for his days on 'Friday Night Lights' and this summer's 'Battleship' and 'John Carter,' is a guy whose name was being thrown around to co-star in the 'Hunger Games' sequel 'Catching Fire.' But according to Kitsch himself, it's not happening.
One of the big casting decisions for 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' (as it is now so artfully titled) is the role of Finnick Odair, a survivor of previous games who's called back in for one more fight. Supposedly the choice is down to three actors: Armie Hammer, Garrett Hedlund, and Taylor Kitsch.
Sorry, RPattz fans. The ‘Twilight’ star has extinguished rumors that Lionsgate is interested in him playing Finnick Odair in the upcoming ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.’
We're so glad they got this all sorted out because we seriously did not know how we could possibly live without knowing the title to the 'Hunger Games' sequel.
We're only a couple months away from the shooting of 'Catching Fire,' Lionsgate's hot in pre-production follow-up to this spring's smash hit 'The Hunger Games' and it looks the film needs a new writer. Simon Beaufoy has been the credited writer for a while, and we know that Francis Lawrence is attached to direct, but it looks like they're bringing in 'Little Miss Sunshine' scribe Michael Arndt to polish the script.
This week we've got the continuation of the Lionsgate 'Catching Fire' director search saga -- and spoiler alert, it doesn't have a happy ending. Disney decides that Hasbro shouldn't have all the fun adapting games, so they're adapting another ride. And Shia LaBeouf -- always reliable for a big dose of, "Um, what?" -- has decided he's a comic artist. We don't think he knows what that means.
As we said yesterday when Lionsgate was down to two contenders, it seemed that Francis Lawrence would be the choice for 'Catching Fire.' Well, we were right, and it's being reported that an offer is going out to Lawrence currently. He would begin shooting this fall.
Though a few names have already been thrown out as possible 'Catching Fire' directors, Lionsgate's 'want' list was longer, and two more names have been added into the mix: 'Moneyball's' Bennett Miller and 'Water for Elephants's' Francis Lawrence.
