Jimmy Fallon Jokes About Taking 'Tonight Show' From Jay Leno

After yesterday's report that Jimmy Fallon would take over 'The Tonight Show' from Jay Leno early next year, both hosts took the stage on their respective shows last night and delivered their opening monologues. One joked about the news; the other did not. It's probably not that hard to figure out who's who.

Years after 'The Tonight Show' debacle between Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien has fallen off our radars, recent rumblings have all-but-confirmed that 'Late Night' host and 'SNL' alum Jimmy Fallon will take the 'Tonight Show' mantle from Leno in 2014. Even though it took place several years ago, we all remember the big late-night showdowns that saw Jay Leno stepping down from the throne of 'The Tonight Show,' only to develop his own series immediately before Conan O'Brien's hosting turn, which ultimately saw the whole thing implode and returned Leno where he started. Now, new rumors suggest that Leno will finally step down in 2014 to be replaced by his 'Late Night' successor Jimmy Fallon, but is there any truth to the new late-night war on the horizon?

For as much as we've enjoyed Conan O'Brien's role as the host of his own TBS show 'Conan,' Jimmy Fallon's increasingly strong work on 'Late Night,' and even Jay Leno's seemingly peaceful return to 'The Tonight Show,' a new storm on the late-night front might be brewing. Some sources are saying that NBC executives have quietly begun searching for Fallon's replacement, in which case Fallon would take over for Leno as host of 'The Tonight Show' in the next few years. Is there any truth to the rumor?
