'The Wolverine' is poised to set Hugh Jackman back on the path as the loner X-Men Logan before the actor reprises the same role in the now Bryan Singer-directed 'X-Men: Days of Future Past.' But this is not gonna be like 'Origins,' folks. The latest issue of Empire has gifted us with a new image from James Mangold's 'The Wolverine,' (which you can see after the break) but perhaps more importantly is a straight-from-Mangold revelation regarding where exactly this film fits into the 'X-Men' movie universe. Is it indeed a direct follow-up to 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' as previously believed? And will it be consistent with the mythology presented in the other 'X-Men' flicks?

As we're all well aware, 'The Wolverine' is currently in production in Australia with a jacked Hugh Jackman once again sinking his teeth into the role of Logan. We also know that the film sports a supporting cast of predominantly unknown actors; or, at the very least, actors who aren't largely familiar to worldwide audiences. But rumor has it a recognizable face is joining Jackman in Sydney for a brief but potentially fascinating cameo. Who could it be...?
