Every director has his or her inspirations when they approach a new project, but it's not every day that they tweet them out! James Mangold is currently hard at work directing 'The Wolverine' with Hugh Jackman, but he took a moment to share images from the ten films that influenced his take on the popular mutant superhero. For a man directing an action-packed blockbuster, they may surprise you!

And now, here are the films the stills are taken from: 'Chungking Express,' 'The Outlaw Josey Wales,' 'The Samurai Trilogy,' 'Floating Weeds,' 'Black Narcissus,' 'Happy Together,' '13 Assassins,' 'The French Connection,' 'Chinatown' and 'Shane.'

Some of those titles make perfect and immediate sense. After all, 'The Samurai Trilogy' and '13 Assassins' certainly informed his film's Japanese setting and westerns like 'The Outlaw Josey Wales' and 'Shane' say a lot about how Mangold must view the solitary badass that is Wolverine. It's the others that make us especially curious. 'Black Narcissus,' for example, is a tremendous film, what does it have to do with 'The Wolverine'?

When 'The Wolverine' opens on July 26th, we can agonize over how each of these films fits into Mangold's vision.
