We've been preoccupied with the 'Iron Man 3' trailer and movie pics these past few days, but now its time to set our sights on the God of Thunder. 'Thor 2,' dubbed 'The Dark World,' is currently shooting in Iceland, which we've already seen through tons of set pics and behind-the-scenes footage leaking out of the woodwork. But who's ready now for some 'Thor: The Dark World' spoilers?
Thor 2: The Dark World
You've got to hand it to Marvel: they sure do like keeping their secrets. What we know about the upcoming sequels to 'Captain America' and 'Thor' could fill a thimble (maybe two), so it always feels like we're grasping at straws when it comes to keeping you fine readers up to date regarding the latest superhero movie news. However, one of the biggest questions about the currently-filming 'Thor: The Dark World' looks like it has an answer. That question: will Tom Hiddleston's Loki be making an appearance?
Hugo Weaving was fantastic as villain Red Skull in 'Captain America,' and the end of the movie left his future in the Marvel movie-verse uncertain, leaving us excited about his possible return. And now that return is seeming less likely, as Weaving says he's not interested in reprising the role.
This is what happens any time you play a superhero in a major comic book franchise: No matter the movie that you are trying to promote, you’ll have to answer a handful of questions about the superhero blockbuster that you eventually are going to film (even though cameras don’t roll for months, at the earliest).
Take Chris Evans, who plays Captain America in Marvel’s string of popcorn thrillers. He’s trying to talk to the media about ‘The Iceman,’ a serial-killer-hitman drama that he and Michael Shannon brought to the Toronto International Film Festival. But instead, he has to spend time talking to outlets about his Marvel future. And Evans talks. To his credit, he knows where his bread is being buttered these days. Movies like ‘The Avengers’ and the upcoming 'Captain America 2' allow him to do as many ‘Iceman’ movies as he’ll want for the foreseeable future.
A few days ago, we caught a handful of behind-the-scenes pictures from the Surrey, England set of 'Thor: The Dark World.' Depicting a hectic battle sequence, the images resembled something closer to 'Game of Thrones' than a superhero movie -- and we mean that in the best possible way. (Perhaps it's thanks to director Alan Taylor having helmed six episodes of 'Thrones'?) If those pictures did it for you, then you'll certainly be pleased to see some moving pictures from the set, courtesy of this all-too-brief video captured by Splash News. Check it out after the break.
Consider this rumor, albeit a very exciting rumor for superhero movie fans. A handful of sources have suggested that Dr. Strange, the Marvel Universe's magic wielding "Sorcerer Supreme," will be introduced in the about-to-shoot 'Thor: The Dark World' and could be played by the one and only Viggo Mortensen.
