Previously set to star Alicia Vikander alongside Tom Hanks, The Circle has been in the market for a new leading lady since Vikander’s scheduling conflicts forced her to bow out. But good news for director James Ponsoldt’s latest: Emma Watson has signed on to replace Vikander in the upcoming dramatic thriller, which she will film right after she’s done with Beauty and the Beast.

Well that was pretty quick. Just last week we learned of Clint Eastwood’s plan to direct a film based on pilot Chelsey “Sully” Sullenberger, who heroically maneuvered an emergency landing when US Airways flight 1549 almost crashed. The director has already found his leading man, as Tom Hanks will reportedly to play Sully in what sounds like the most “movie for your dad” movie to ever exist.

When Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg last made a war film, they produced Saving Private Ryan, which was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, and features what’s widely considered one of the greatest battle scenes ever captured on film. They’ve worked together since, including on Catch Me If You Can, one of the best movies of either man’s career, but Bridge of Spies might be considered a kind of spiritual sequel to Ryan. That was Hanks and Spielberg’s World War II picture. This is their Cold War one.

The Late Late Show With James Corden made its grand debut last night, with seemingly every celebrity in existence popping up to say hello. But for his first official guest, Corden snagged everyone’s favorite actor: the one and only Tom Hanks. More importantly, he got Tom Hanks to get really silly and there are few things better than Hanks throwing caution to the wind and embracing his inner comedian. In this case, he got the two-time Oscar winner to re-enact all of his movies in less than eight minutes.

Steven Spielberg’s upcoming project, previously referred to as Untitled Cold War Thriller while filming under the name St. James Place, now has a formal title. The director’s fourth film with Tom Hanks is now called Bridge of Spies, which is rather appropriate given the subject matter. Also reuniting with Spielberg on the project is composer John Williams, marking his 27th collaboration with the director.

It was fairly inevitable that director Ron Howard and Tom Hanks would team up for another sequel to The Da Vinci Code, despite the largely underwhelming Angels and Demons. As Inferno finally gears up for production, the new project is certainly making a case for our interest, adding a trio of international stars to the cast, including actors from X-Men and Jurassic World.

SNL 40 Monologue: Steve Martin, Tom Hanks and Many More
We knew going in that the SNL 40th anniversary special would be chock-full of just about every famous person who has ever walked within spitting distance of 30 Rockefeller Plaza and the opening monologue was quick to make use of this genuinely insane temporary cast of stars. Things got started on the right foot when the always-welcome Steve Martin took the stage ... but then he was joined by Tom Hanks. And then things got really crazy.

One might argue all movie stars are overpaid in comparison to essential professions like teachers or first responders, but in the grand scheme of things they earn their keep; their work generates absurd amounts of money, and for that work they are in turn paid slightly less absurd amounts of money.

Tom Hanks Eyed for James Ponsoldt's 'The Circle' Adaptation
James Ponsoldt is one of our most talented and promising new directors, following his directorial debut with 'The Spectacular Now.' And while he has a couple of other projects in the pipeline, Ponsoldt is also adapting the new Dave Eggers' novel 'The Circle,' which has attracted the eye of actor and producer Tom Hanks. It wouldn't be the first time Hanks has starred in an adaptation of a Dave Eggers novel, either.
