The prospect of future Boondock Saints beyond the 2009 sequel has continually recurred over the years, but writer-director Troy Duffy may finally have pulled the MacManus brothers out of mothballs. A new prequel TV series has entered development with Duffy at the helm, with franchise stars Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flannery eyed to produce.
The saga of Troy Duffy is an interesting one. He sold his script for 'The Boondock Saints' to Miramax and he was pegged as the next Quentin Tarantino. But the studio pulled out of the film during pre-production, and the film was not the hot ticket item that was hoped for. 'The Boondock Saints' eventually came out in 2000 and was barely released. But over the years it became a cult favorite, spawning a sequel in 2009 called 'The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day.' And now there might be a third.
