The world of Twin Peaks dimmed with the recent passing of its iconic “Log Lady” Catherine Coulson, yet Showtime rolls forward with another addition to next year’s reboot. Prison Break and Arrow star Robert Knepper will grab some fine coffee with the cast, but has the mystery surrounding our new Twin Peaks lessened?

A sad day for fans of Catherine Coulson and Twin Peaks alike, as the actress behind one of the most iconic, if understated characters has passed away. The frequent David Lynch collaborator was also known for her work as a camera assistant, and was expected to reprise her role for Showtime’s upcoming Twin Peaks revival.

Whether or not David Lynch approves, more casting of Showtime’s Twin Peaks has emerged from production, following the addition of Amanda Seyfried late last week. This time around, Balthazar Getty has been tapped for a top-secret role, but will he play someone new altogether?

Twin Peaks creator David Lynch may have implored fans to avoid spoiling Showtime’s upcoming revival with reports from the set, but he didn’t say anything about casting! Cue Amanda Seyfried, making her TV return with a new mystery role in the next incarnation of Twin Peaks. Damn fine casting.

As inherent to Twin Peaks’ success as the central mystery of Laura Palmer was, there’s no arguing that the original ABC series ran amid a much less spoiler-phobic culture. Now that Showtime’s revival has begun setting up shop however, creator David Lynch has asked that fans avoid observing production, or any possible Twin Peaks spoilers therein.

Last we heard from Showtime’s Twin Peaks, production had begun gearing up for a September shoot that could potentially place new episodes as early as 2016, but little beyond David Lynch and Kyle MacLachlan have been confirmed to return. Now, at least, we know composer Angelo Badalamenti will return to score the series, affording another notable bit of continuity.

Production on Showtime’s Twin Peaks revival has proven almost as much of a mystery as the series itself, first losing, then regaining David Lynch, with some rumors putting an episode count as high as 18. Now, Showtime at least confirms production due to begin, offering other insight on its premiere and episode order.

We live in an age where every ‘90s TV show you love is getting revived, but a third season of Twin Peaks still manages to feel like something special. After all, the soapy and surreal series laid the groundwork for the golden age of modern television a decade before The Sopranos...and then it ended its run on an unresolved cliffhanger. So the news that the show was returning in 2016 was greeted with waves of internet optimism and excitement. Well, grab yourself a damn fine cup of coffee and get comfortable, because it’s now starting to look like 2017.
