Will Forte

Three seasons in, The Last Man on Earth has revealed little of its history, only occasionally referencing the fact that the series takes place some time after 2023. As such, the Will Forte apocalypse comedy occasionally gets to have fun with our future history, as last night revealed the fate of the 46th president, and his entire staff.

We still don’t know if SNL and MacGruber pals Kristen Wiig and Will Forte will ever reunite for that MacGruber sequel, but FOX’s The Last Man on Earth will nonetheless get the two back onscreen. Near of the world’s entire population dies of a virus, and The Last Man on Earth still manages to run into celebrity after celebrity. The latest offers another SNL (and MacGruber!) reunion, as Kristen Wiig will appear on Last Man in a top-secret role later in Season 3.

Foreign films have historically done pretty well in the Best Animated Feature category at the Academy Awards, with at least one import usually squeezing into the nominations alongside the latest pictures from Disney or Pixar. Last year included Brazil’s Boy and the World as well as Japan’s When Marnie Was There, and while the likes of Kubo and the Two Strings, Moana, Finding Dory and Zootopia have all but sewn up their nominations for the 2017 ceremony (check back on the 24th to find out!), that leaves room for one wild card. It could be The Red Turtle, the latest animated film with a Studio Ghibli pedigree, or it could be a poignant and sweet little Swiss picture My Life as a Zucchini.

‘MacGruber 2’ has become one of those lifelong dreams that by this point, only seems further from the realm of possibility. Will Forte and writer Jorma Taccone have been talking about a sequel to their 2010 comedy for years, even teasing fans with their super awesome idea for a cold open. But now, finally, the clouds have parted and the sun has shined down on a script for ‘MacGruber 2.’

FOX and Will Forte’s Last Man on Earth most always keeps its pop-culture references on the surface, save for anyone noticing Betty Draper in their midsts. Last year paid what seemed to be a quick homage to January Jones’ Mad Men past, but Sunday’s Season 3 premiere saw Betty finally get even with an awesome cameo.

The Last Man on Earth has gone to far stranger places than we ever imagined by its bare-bones premise, and might even go to war in the Season 3 premiere. After the ominous cliffhanger of Season 2, our first Season 3 premiere photos see the survivors gearing up for a fight, or at least making new eyebrows for themselves.

Surely, you didn’t think Jon Snow and Andy Samberg’s mullet playing tennis for seven days would be the weirdest thing HBO could come up with. Samberg and Murray Miller have already begun working on another sport mockumentary focused on the Tour de France doping scandals, this time starring Will Forte, Dolph Lundgren, John Cena and more.

Forget that crazy-expensive David Ayer-Will Smith fantasy-action buddy cop project — David Wain’s National Lampoon origin movie is the most exciting original feature brewing over at Netflix right now. And now that the casting process has begun, things are getting even more interesting for the film, as Joel McHale and Broad City’s John Gemberling have landed two very iconic roles, playing Chevy Chase and John Belushi, respectively.
