Disclaimer: It’s best to go into Karyn Kusama’s The Invitation completely blind, if possible, in order to get the most out of this exquisitely unnerving thriller. But if you absolutely, positively must watch a trailer before you commit to seeing the film, then this is a pretty great preview of what’s in store.

The Invitation is a masterclass in building dread, and the music used in the latest trailer really capitalizes on that sensation. Directed by Karyn Kusama (Jennifer’s Body), The Invitation centers on Will and his new girlfriend, who attend a dinner party hosted by Will’s ex, Eden, and her new boyfriend, David. What begins as a slightly awkward situation slowly evolves from disquieting to uncomfortable to…well, you’ll just have to see it, won’t you?

The Invitation stars Logan Marshall-Green, Michiel Huisman, Emayatzy Corinealdi, Tammy Blanchard, John Carroll Lynch and Lindsay Burdge. Here’s the full synopsis:

In this taut psychological thriller by Karyn Kusama (Girlfight, Jennifer’s Body), the tension is palpable when Will (Logan Marshall-Green, Prometheus) shows up to his ex-wife Eden (Tammy Blanchard, Into the Woods) and new husband, David’s (Michiel  Huisman, “Game of Thrones”) dinner party. The pair’s tragic past haunts an equally spooky present: Amid Eden’s suspicious behavior and her mysterious house guests, Will becomes convinced that his invitation was extended with a hidden agenda. Unfolding over one dark evening in the Hollywood Hills, The Invitation blurs layers of mounting paranoia, mystery, and horror until both Will-and the audience-are unsure what threats are real or imagined.

The Invitation hits theaters and VOD on April 8.
