'Twilight' star Kellan Lutz plays the mythic strongman in his first stint as a leading man in a feature film for 'The Legend of Hercules,' the trailer for which places him smack dab in his own origin story. But will the hunky actor with racks on racks on racks of abs be able to flex his acting muscles in the driver's seat?

So far, it seems doubtful that Lutz can rise above the surface of his streak of supporting roles, especially when he's placed opposite fan-favorite 'Spartacus' star Liam McIntyre and action star Scott Adkins. The new 'Legend of Hercules' trailer alone doesn't do well to show off the film's special effects, either.

Formerly titled 'Hercules 3D' and 'Hercules: The Legend Begins,' 'The Legend of Hercules' story reads:

In the epic origin story THE LEGEND OF HERCULES, Kellan Lutz stars as the mythical Greek hero – the son of Zeus, a half-god, half-man blessed with extraordinary strength. Betrayed by his stepfather, the King, and exiled and sold into slavery because of a forbidden love, Hercules must use his formidable powers to fight his way back to his rightful kingdom. Through harrowing battles and gladiator-arena death matches, Hercules embarks on a legendary odyssey to overthrow the King and restore peace to the land.

To add yet another obstacle in Lutz's path, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has filmed his own Hercules movie, 'Hercules: The Thracian Wars,' directed by Brett Ratner and set for release on July 25. 'The Legend of Hercules' will bow well before then on January 10, but even still it doesn't seem like a fair fight.
