All season long 'The Simpsons' fans have dreaded the upcoming character death to hit one of the Emmy-winning cast's familiar voices, but it seems we have some time yet until the axe falls. A new interview with executive producers Al Jean and Matt Selman reveals that we won't know which character falls victim to the so-called "Yellow Wedding" until the season 26 premiere this fall, but have the suspects narrowed at all?

“This is going to be a bigger deal than King Joffrey on Game of Thrones – the Yellow Wedding!” Jean said during a conference call (Via TVLine). “The character that dies is portrayed by an actor who won an Emmy for playing that character. People who reported on it then reported we were killing an ‘iconic’ character; I’d like to say it’s a great character, but I never used the word ‘iconic.’ It’s a terrific character and it [happens in] our premiere this coming year.”

Of course, we shouldn't necessarily expect the character death to change altogether much for production, as producers assured the performer in question it wouldn't mean the end of their time with the series, and the character could well pop up in fantasy or a future Halloween episode regardless.

To date, series star Hank Azaria has confirmed it won’t be any of his characters that suffer the reaper, including the likes of such prolific characters as Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, Moe Szyslak, Chief Clancy Wiggum, Officer Lou, Jeff “Comic Book Guy” Albertson, Carl Carlson, Cletus the slack-jawed yokel, Sea Captain Horatio McCallister, Bumblebee Man, Super Nintendo Superintendent Chalmers, Duffman, Professor Frink, Snake, Dr. Nick Riviera, Kirk Van Houten, and Disco Stu.

Considering the Emmy win, that still leaves Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, and Yeardley Smith along with guest stars Anne Hathaway, Kelsey Grammer, and Jackie Mason. What do you think? Does the season 26 premiere leave more time to speculate on which 'Simpsons' character will be killed off, or has the speculation figured it out already?
