‘The Simpsons’ Channels ‘Game of Thrones’ With Latest Couch Gag
You know you've officially made it to the big time when 'The Simpsons' has it in mind to skewer you, not that 'Game of Thrones' really needed much confirmation of its popularity.
Last night's otherwise un-remarkable episode of 'The Simpsons' "Exit Through the Kwik-E-Mart" sought to brilliantly capture 'Game of Thrones' memorable title credits sequence through its weekly couch gag, transforming the whole of Springfield into the landscape of Westeros that famously rises and comes to life as the credits roll! As if the amazing new trailer for 'Game of Thrones' Season 2 weren't enough, the fires of anticipation for the April 1 premiere only burn hotter with this homage.
In 'The Simpsons' appropriation of Westeros, The Simpsons themselves naturally take the role of the Starks (with Grampa Simpson taking the role of the famed "Godswood" tree), as the camera pans over Springfield rising to life, complete with Mr. Burns' mansion arising as "Burns Landing," and settling on "The Couch" in place of the wall the 'Game of Thrones' Night's Watch stand guard over.
And as an added bonus' for 'Game of Thrones' fans, note the three-eyed crows that emerge from the nuclear plant (instead of 'The Simpsons' well-known three-eyed fish), much like the crow that appeared to young Bram Stark in his dreams throughout the first season!
