If you heard a distant rumble of thunder in the distance over the holiday weekend, it might not have been inclement weather on the horizon. Marvel’s Thunder God is back.

As announced by Marvel Co-President and producer Louis D’Esposito on Twitter, the third Thor movie, Thor: Ragnarok, went into production on Independence Day down in Australia under the direction of Taika Waititi.

In the same way that the Captain America movies keep broadening their reach and expanding their casts with each new installment, Thor: Ragnarok will bring even more Marvel heroes and villains into the cinematic fold. Jeff Goldblum will play the Grandmaster; Karl Urban is Skurge the Executioner (a guy who wears a picture of an axe on his chest to show how much he likes axes). And Mark Ruffalo, one of the few Avengers who didn’t pop up in Captain America: Civil War, returns to the MCU as Bruce Banner and the Hulk (rumor has it we’ll get to see a little bit of the “Planet Hulk” storyline here). Creed’s Tessa Thompson plays the Valkyrie, and the great Cate Blanchett plays Hela, the Asgardian goddess of death. So I’m gonna guess she and Thor don’t see eye-to-eye on a variety of social and political issues.

Chris Hemsworth returns as the Thunder God, of course, along with Tom Hiddleston as his fiendish brother Loki (perhaps for the last time) and Anthony Hopkins as papa deity Odin. Marvel hasn’t released a full plot synopsis for Thor: Ragnarok yet; so far, they have only called it Thor’s “most dangerous and heroic adventure yet.” It opens in theaters on November 3, 2017.
