'True Detective' Season 2 Confirms Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn, New Plot DetailsKevin Fitzpatrick |
Finally! After months and months of speculation upon rumor, 'True Detective' season 2 has finally begun announcing its official cast leads. Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn have been confirmed, along with 'Fast and Furious' director Justin Lin, but who else can we expect to join the HBO drama, and what new plot details have emerged?
As pieced together by the various casting leaks, and now confirmed by HBO, Farrell will take the role of Ray Velcoro, a "compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him." Vaughn, meanwhile, will play Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner."
As expected, Lin will direct the first two of eight episodes in season 2, which itself is now said to follow "three police officers and a career criminal who must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder."
When last we'd heard, 'True Detective' season 2 was said to follow the death of a corrupt city manager in a fictional California city, amid a groundbreaking transportation deal that would drastically change the state. Three law enforcement officers from different cities and branches of the government would be tasked with finding the culprit, only to discover the investigation has broader and darker implications than they initially thought.
Taylor Kitsch has been rumored as the second male lead of the season, while 'Mad Men''s Elisabeth Moss and Rachel McAdams had reportedly vied for the female lead. That idea was recently upended by another round of casting that suggested Rosario Dawson, Jessica Biel, Oona Chaplin, Jaimie Alexander, Brit Marling, Malin Akerman and Kelly Reilly were also up for the part. 'The Killing' and genre vet Michelle Forbes had also supposedly been in talks for a supporting character.
We'll keep you posted on the latest 'True Detective' season 2 castings, but what say you? Are you excited to have Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn confirmed as two of our leads?
