'True Detective' Season 2 to Premiere Summer 2015, Casting Details ConfirmedKevin Fitzpatrick |
HBO's 'True Detective' has kept details of of the second season more in mystery than that of the show's own investigations, but before any casting announcements are confirmed, we at last have some real info. HBO has confirmed that season 2 will begin shooting soon, aiming for a summer 2015 premiere date, while shoring up the identities of its three leading characters.
Speaking at the Edinburgh TV festival, HBO programming director Michael Lombardo explained that "We’re going to start shooting in September for it to air next summer," also confirming the basic outline of its lead characters, casting of which will soon be announced. "There are three cops," said Lombardo. "One of the characters is female." The HBO exec also explained that there would be three or four directors working on the season, unlike Cary Fukunaga's singular tenure over the first run.
Previously, Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch have been rumored as the male leads for the second season, with 'Mad Men' star Elisabeth Moss in contention for the female role, and Vince Vaughn supposedly in talks to play a more villainous character. 'The Killing' and genre vet Michelle Forbes had also supposedly been in talks for a supporting character, but HBO has yet to confirm any of the casting rumors.
When last we'd heard, the second season of 'True Detective' was said to follow the death of a corrupt city manager in a fictional California city, amid a groundbreaking transportation deal that would drastically change the state. Three law enforcement officers from different cities and branches of the government would be tasked with finding the culprit, only to discover the investigation has broader and darker implications than they initially thought.
Hopefully HBO's casting announcements will come sooner rather than later, but what say you? What do you want to see from ‘True Detective’ season 2, now that we'll have to wait until summer 2015 to see it?
